Strategic housing

We work closely with housing associations and private developers to deliver affordable housing in Herefordshire. This is achieved by negotiating and supporting them through the planning process. We shape the market and advise on housing need, bid sizes and tenures.

We are a partner with Homes England and support grant funding opportunities for our preferred partners. We also access bid funding opportunities to assist our operational colleagues.

We are responsible for writing and publishing strategies relating to housing and monitoring the action plans.

We work with home owners to encourage them to bring their empty properties back into use, offering advice and guidance. Grant funding is also available.

Our targets for 2023/24

Every year we set challenging targets to ensure our activities are focused to deliver additional housing for those in need. From 1 April 2023 our target is:

  • 250 new affordable homes to be built or acquired
