We work closely with housing associations and private developers to deliver affordable housing in Herefordshire. This is achieved by negotiating and supporting them through the planning process. We shape the market and advise on housing need, bid sizes and tenures.
We work in partnership with Homes England to support grant funding opportunities to our preferred partners. We also access bid funding opportunities to assist our operational colleagues.
We are responsible for writing and publishing strategies relating to housing and monitoring the action plans.
We work with home owners to encourage them to bring their empty properties back into use, offering advice and guidance. Grant funding is also available.
Our targets for 2021/22
Every year we set challenging targets to ensure our activities are focused to deliver additional housing for those in need. From 1 April 2021 our target is:
- 220 new affordable homes to be built or acquired

Strategic housing is responsible for all housing related strategies. The strategies are required to provide a plan of action to achieve defined goals, in conditions of uncertainty, with limited resources.
