Alternative provision providers

This directory contains a range of quality assured alternative provision (AP) providers operating in Herefordshire. These listings are intended as a resource to support school staff in identifying potential AP options, and inclusion within the directory does not constitute an endorsement or remove the statutory responsibilities of commissioners.

Alternative provision should only be commissioned when school have satisfied themselves that other forms of in school support and adjustments have been explored and exhausted.

The commissioner of alternative provision maintains safeguarding responsibilities. Before any placement is agreed, the school must carry out thorough due diligence to assess whether the provision is:

  • Safe
  • Offers high quality education
  • Is suitable for meeting the child’s individual needs
  • Commissioned appropriately and used in the pupils’ best interests
  • Registered where appropriate

Please refer to the Alternative Provision Commissioning Toolkit for detailed guidance on schools responsibilities and the quality assurance checklist.
