Get rid of a large unwanted item

Can your item be reused?

Many of the items we collect are in a good condition and could be used again by others.

If you have furniture items or appliances that are clean, and in a reusable working condition, please try to:

  • Sell the item - there are many websites you can use such as Facebook Marketplace, eBay, Gumtree
  • Ask a family member or friends if they could make use of the item
  • Donate it to a charity or reuse organisation who will collect it for free, or advertise on the freecycle website
  • If you can get the item there, you can take it to your nearest household recycling centre and put it in the reuse container (please check each centre to see what items can be donated).

Check our directory of reuse organisations which may be able to take your item

Retailers of large electrical items such as fridges and cookers may offer a take-back scheme for your old item when delivering the new one. They may charge for this. They may also take away the packaging.

If your items are not suitable for reuse, please arrange a collection.
