About planning services

Planning advice

All information related to planning and the application process can be found on the Planning Portal website. Interactive guidance is available for residential properties.

If you would like more specific advice about your proposal and application you can pay for general planning advice or pre-application planning advice from the planning team.

There is advice about development in the River Lugg and River Clun catchment areas in Nutrient management.

Planning applications

You can apply online for planning permission and track your planning application and decision online through the Planning Portal. You can view planning applications on our planning application page.

Planning enforcement

Herefordshire Council is responsible for planning enforcement across the county. Failure to comply with planning permission or building regulation requirements can result in large fines or imprisonment. We employ enforcement officers to investigate complaints of unauthorised development and non-compliance with conditions.

Planning searches

You can search all planning applications since 2006 using our online planning application search. You can also choose whether to conduct your own search without support and we will order all appropriate files and microfiche which may relate to your site back to the date you request. Once we have the information we will contact you and book an appointment for you at Herefordshire Archive and Records Centre (HARC), Fir Tree Lane, Rotherwas, Hereford HR2 6LA to view the documents and extract the information you require. There could be numerous files and microfiche to study due to the historic nature of these records. To do this, complete the planning search booking form and select free service. Further information about planning searches.

Alternatively you can choose to pay for a full search of planning history covering all planning applications dating back to 1948 on a site. We will complete the search for you and email you our findings or we will book an appointment for you at HARC where you will be able to review the documentation.

The statutory planning register can also be viewed at HARC.

Make an appointment to view the planning register - email planningdesk@herefordshire.gov.uk

You can receive general advice on the planning application process, submit applications and make payments at Hereford Customer Services Centre, Blueschool House, Blueschool Street. Hereford Customer Services Centre opening hours are:

  • Monday to Friday 10am to 4pm

Copyright and planning applications

We publish planning application documents (including plans, drawings and supporting reports) as part of our statutory duties to publicise planning applications and maintain a planning register.  Government guidance recognises that public bodies may make third‑party copyright material available online where it has been provided for a statutory register (including planning applications), subject to applicable limits (for example, where material is commercially available).

Who owns the copyright?

Copyright in the documents normally belongs to the person or organisation that created them (for example, the architect, designer or author), unless otherwise agreed. Making documents available on our website does not transfer copyright to the Council or to users of the site.

What you may do

You may view documents and download/print them for consultation and inspection in connection with the planning process (for example, to comment on an application, compare it with earlier proposals, or check whether development appears to accord with approved plans).

What you may not do without permission

You must not copy, distribute, publish, adapt, or otherwise re‑use plans or documents for other purposes (including commercial purposes) without the permission of the copyright holder.

Copyright disputes

Any allegation of copyright infringement is generally a private civil matter between the parties. The Council will continue to process applications in accordance with its statutory duties.

To request permission to re‑use any plan or document, please contact the copyright owner/author shown on the document (or the applicant/agent who submitted it) to obtain written consent.
