Parking with a Blue Badge

Disabled badge holders are entitled to three hours free parking in Herefordshire Council managed pay and display car parks if a valid badge and clock are displayed correctly. If you need more than three hours, you can buy a ticket to give extra time, but you mustn't exceed the car park's maximum stay.

Many council car parks have dedicated disabled spaces which allow extra room, but disabled badge holders can park in any space designated for cars.

Your responsibilities as a Blue Badge holder

European Disabled Persons car badges (Blue Badges) provide a range of parking benefits for your use and benefit only. As the badge holder, it is your responsibility to ensure that the badge is used properly:

  • It must only be displayed if you are travelling in the vehicle as a driver or passenger.
  • The parking concession is not a licence to park anywhere.
  • When using the badge to gain a parking concession, it must be displayed on top of the dashboard or fascia panel of a vehicle with the wheelchair-user symbol facing outward and clearly visible from outside the vehicle.
  • The details on the badge must be legible. If the details become unreadable, please contact Herefordshire Council on 01432 260433.
  • Do not use the badge if it has expired.
  • You should not use the badge in such a way that non-disabled people take advantage of its benefits while you sit in the car.
  • The badge must not be copied or the details altered and it must not be used, loaned or sold to a third party.
  • The badge must be returned securely to Herefordshire Council on the death of the badge holder or if the badge has expired.

The Department for Transport leaflet The Blue Badge scheme: rights and responsibilities in England will be issued with your Blue Badge. If you are using the parking concessions as a passenger, then it is your responsibility to make sure that the driver is aware of the rules set out in the leaflet.
