Herefordshire Council seeks residents’ views on new parking strategy

Herefordshire Council is urging everyone in the county to have their say on a new draft Parking Strategy, that will shape how parking is managed and developed across the county over the next 15 years.

Residents, businesses, visitors, commuters into Herefordshire and other interested parties are all being invited to take part in the Parking Strategy consultation.

The consultation, which runs until June 03, is seeking views on a wide range of subjects, including town centre parking, school safety, enforcement, technology, residents’ parking and support for businesses.

As part of the consultation, the Council is introducing the idea of ‘positive parking’

This is a strategic approach to parking management to change perceptions, improve the user experience, and ensure parking supports economic, social, and environmental goals.  Being focused on fairness, safety and accessibility. In simple terms, this means creating a parking system that works better for residents, businesses and visitors by making parking easier to understand, improving access to local services and town centres, supporting safer streets, and ensuring parking is managed in a balanced and consistent way across the county.

The strategy is also designed to support wider ambitions around transport, thriving town centres, economic growth and sustainable travel — helping people move around Herefordshire in ways that support local businesses, communities and the environment.

Parking affects almost everyone in Herefordshire, whether commuting to work, visiting local shops, supporting businesses, accessing healthcare, or travelling for leisure. The Council is encouraging people to share their real-life experiences to help shape future decisions.

Herefordshire Council’s Cabinet Member for Roads and Regulatory Services, Cllr Barry Durkin, said:

“Parking is something people experience every day, and we want to understand what works well and what could be improved. This strategy is about creating safer, fairer and more accessible parking across Herefordshire, and we want to hear from as many different voices as possible before we make final decisions.”

The consultation is open online and includes a short survey covering key themes such as accessibility, town centre experience, school safety, and parking for residents and visitors.

Residents, businesses, community groups and visitors are encouraged to take part and help shape the future of parking across the county.
