Universal short breaks and activities open to disabled children

Mainstream community services are open to everyone. You do not need a social care assessment for your child to attend. These are called universal activities. Examples include:

  • Youth clubs
  • Uniformed groups (for example Cubs, Brownies)
  • Leisure centres
  • Nurseries and childminders
  • Activity-based groups

Community services must consider how they can help children with disabilities to use their services.

We are working with local activity providers to help them make their services easier to access for children with disabilities.
