July 2016 - Public consultation on the Preferred Options

This public consultation asking for views on the preferred sites took place between 25 July and 19 September 2016.

The preferred options presented for the previous consultation were intended to help meet the projected requirement at that time for pitches over the next five years. Subsequent work to update the findings has shown that the level of provision required is lower than initially calculated.

The establishment of temporary stopping places will enable the movement of Travellers through the county to be managed more harmoniously, providing greater certainty for travellers and local residents.

Level of need will continue to be monitored on a regular basis to ensure accommodation requirements are being addressed.

December 2015 - Call for sites

The call for sites was open between 17 December 2015 and 14 February 2016.

Those possible sites considered most suitable, after an initial assessment according to criteria, including impact on surrounding areas, access to facilities, and site access, were then put forward in the draft consultation document.

November 2015 - Final Gypsy and Traveller Accommodation Assessment

This revised assessment takes into account an Inspector's recommendations from another part of the UK regarding methodology. A Gypsy and Traveller Accommodation Assessment (GTAA) is required to form part of the evidence base for the emerging Travellers' Sites Document. The GTAA will tell us how many pitches will be required over the plan period.
