Challenge a parking fine

If you feel that a notice should not have been issued or there are mitigating circumstances, then you can challenge the penalty charge notice.

You can use our online form to:

Challenge a penalty notice

A challenge can only be made in writing. Make sure your challenge includes both the penalty charge notice number and your vehicle registration. We need these details to connect your challenge to the notice. Please also provide your address so that we can reply to you.

If you have evidence to support your challenge, such as a disabled person's badge, season disc or residents' parking permit, please send a legible copy with your correspondence.

We aim to reply to all letters within 15 working days of receipt. If we can't give a full reply within ten days, we'll send an acknowledgement within five days of receipt.

You can also contact the Parking Team with general enquiries on 01432 260400. Phone lines are open from 10am to 4pm on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, and from 1pm to 4pm on Wednesday. We cannot advise whether a challenge will be successful or not, but we can tell you how much is outstanding or why the notice has been issued.

Once we receive a challenge to a notice, we'll put that notice on hold until we have responded.

If a challenge is received within 14 days of the date the Penalty Charge Notice was issued and is unsuccessful, a further 14 days will be given for you to pay at the discounted amount.
