Thousands of people across Herefordshire freely give time, expertise and energy to benefit others or the environment. Volunteering provides opportunities for people from a broad range of backgrounds to work together towards a common goal and put something back into their local community. It can also be personally rewarding and can offer a route into further community activity, education, training or paid employment. For many it's an opportunity to get out and meet people, develop skills and experience while building confidence and self-esteem.

Herefordshire Council supports volunteering through its scheme which gives staff time to volunteer in the community.

There are many opportunities to volunteer within Herefordshire Council as well. Take a look at the council volunteering opportunities.

We have a volunteer policy and agreement in place to support and recognise those who volunteer for the council. Volunteers bring added value through a range of expertise that complements and helps deliver our services.

The Community Champion Awards, organised by Councillor Brian Wilcox, former Chairman of Herefordshire Council, have been developed to recognise and to say a massive 'Thank You' to the extraordinary individual and group contributors, living in Herefordshire that make it one of the best places in the country. If you know someone who is an unsung community champion then you can nominate them online.
