Why volunteer?

Thousands of people across Herefordshire freely give time, expertise and energy to benefit others or the environment. Volunteering provides opportunities for people from a broad range of backgrounds to work together towards a common goal and put something back into their local community. It can also be personally rewarding and can offer a route into further community activity, education, training or paid employment. For many it's an opportunity to get out and meet people, develop skills and experience while building confidence and self-esteem.

There are hundreds of voluntary and community organisations throughout the county which rely on help from volunteers and can offer a variety of formal or less formal opportunities to get involved. Herefordshire Council supports volunteering through its scheme which gives staff time to volunteer in the community.

The Community Champion Awards, organised by Councillor Brian Wilcox, Chairman of Herefordshire Council, have been developed to recognise and to say a massive 'Thank You' to the extraordinary individual and group contributors, living in Herefordshire that make it one of the best places in the country.‚Äč If you know someone who is an unsung community champion then you can nominate them online.

There are many opportunities to volunteer within the cultural services within Herefordshire Council as well.

Take a look at opportunities at Libraries, Museums and at HARC.
