We Are Farming Minds is a Herefordshire-based registered charity founded by local farming couple Sam and Emily Stables after Sam’s own struggles with poor mental health. The charity was set up to raise awareness and provide vital support for farmers and their families across Herefordshire and the surrounding rural communities.
Their free and confidential services include a 24/7 support line run by trained volunteers, fully funded private counselling (with the aim of connecting anyone in need with a counsellor within seven days), and free mental health training for individuals and professionals in farming. Alongside this, they run regular social initiatives to tackle isolation and bring people together. These include One Foot in the Grain for older retired farmers, Women What Farm events and Men in Agriculture evenings.
The Lord-Lieutenant of Herefordshire Mr Edward Harley CBE, Mrs Harley, Deputy Lieutenants Glyn Morgan CBE DL and Monty Don DL were pleased to visit the charity following The Prince of Wales becoming a patron of We Are Farming Minds.
