Workplace health and safety

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) provides information and advice for members of the public and for businesses. If you employ anyone, you must provide every employee with access to information about British law regarding health and safety at work. You must do this in one of two ways:

  • Display the HSE's health and safety law poster, in a readable condition, and where workers can easily read it
  • Give each of your employees a copy of the leaflet - Health and Safety Law: What you need to know

The poster and leaflets include basic health and safety information and identify who is responsible for health and safety in your workplace. You must also include some contact details, for example of your local enforcing authority.

The HSE produce a wide range of publications, many of which are downloadable free of charge. For further information, please visit the HSE website and the HSE online bookshop.

You can also contact the council's environmental health commercial team for help and advice, use our contact us form, email ethelpline@herefordshire.gov.uk or call 01432 261761 on Monday to Friday - 9am to 4.15pm (we aim to respond to your enquiry within five working days).
