Council budgets and spending

Medium term financial strategy

Our medium term financial strategy covers the years 2025 to 2029 and demonstrates how the council will maintain financial stability, deliver efficiencies and support investment in priority services while demonstrating value for money and maintaining service quality. We plan how we will spend our money based on the priorities in the strategy. Herefordshire's key priority areas are:

  • People - We will enable residents to realise their potential, to be healthy and benefit from communities that help people to feel safe and supported
  • Place - We will protect and enhance our environment and ensure that Herefordshire remains a great place to live. We will support the right housing in the right place and do everything we can to improve the health of our rivers
  • Growth - We will create the conditions to deliver sustainable growth across the county; attracting inward investment, building business confidence, creating jobs, enabling housing development along with providing the right infrastructure
  • Transformation - We will be an efficient council that embraces best practice, delivers innovation through technology and demonstrates value for money

Annual statement of accounts

Our annual accounts for the preceding financial year are prepared in the period April to May. Under the Accounts and Audit Regulations 2015 we are required to publish a set of financial statements and supporting notes, including a narrative statement and an annual governance statement.

During the year, Cabinet receives reports on financial performance. The accounts are presented to audit and governance committee and subject to audit by our external auditors to confirm that they are true and fair and free from material errors.

Public inspection of accounts

If you are registered to vote in Herefordshire, you have certain legal rights which allow you to inspect the council's accounts and related documents, and ask questions about them.
