DfT local highways maintenance transparency report
The current Department for Transport guidance states that annual highways maintenance transparency reports are required from all local highway authorities in England. The reports are intended to provide the public with clear information about how authorities maintain and invest in their highway network, including pothole repairs, planned maintenance, and asset management activities.
DfT uses the information in these reports to:
- Assess how effectively local highway authorities are maintaining their road networks
- Determine eligibility for Highways Maintenance Incentive Funding
- Inform the Department's local road maintenance ratings, helping benchmark authorities and improve accountability for the use of public funding
