Library services for secondary schools

Herefordshire Libraries provides a range of services to support and engage with local schools. We also supply bespoke resources to schools from our County Libraries Unit, including the discounted purchase of children's fiction collections to support learning, literacy, and reading for pleasure.

These are available as flexible pay-as-you-go or subscription options which enable schools to make the most of their budgets and access quality materials at reduced cost throughout the school year.

Annual subscription option – new fiction collections

  • 90 brand new paperback children's/teenage fiction books supplied according to school requirements to support the development of key literacy skills and a lifelong love of reading
  • 30 books delivered to school once each term (or can be collected from the County Libraries Unit, Hereford)
  • All books will be serviced with plastic jackets and date labels
  • Schools may provide a list of suggested titles, or we can select titles on your behalf
  • These books will remain the property of the school and do not need to be returned to Herefordshire Libraries
  • Schools can also receive up to 3 hours advice and support in school from our team during the year. This can include support with editing stock and advice on purchasing or general layout.

Annual subscription charge 2026/27

Secondary school fiction collection (90 books) - £510

This price is based on the average cost of children's and teenage fiction. If your requests exceed this price, we reserve the right to charge more for these titles, but we will discuss this with you before proceeding.

The subscription runs for 12 months from 1 September to 31 August, and provision can be made for schools joining during the year. Schools can sign up to the subscription option through the Hoople Schools Portal or by emailing Herefordshire Libraries (school library services) at sls@herefordshire.gov.uk

Pay-as-you-go fiction collections

Schools can purchase additional fiction collections at any time through the year on a pay-as-you-go basis. Email Herefordshire Libraries (school library services) at sls@herefordshire.gov.uk to discuss your requirements.
