Herefordshire Libraries provides a range of services to support and engage with local schools. We also supply bespoke resources to schools from our County Libraries Unit, including project sets and children's fiction collections to support learning, literacy, and reading for pleasure.
These are available as flexible pay-as-you-go or subscription options which enable schools to make the most of their budgets and access quality materials at reduced cost throughout the school year.
Project sets and artefact sets
- Request topics of your choice (Early years to Year 6 subject to availability)
- Book sets contain 30 books per project
- Sets can contain non-fiction or fiction books or a mixture of both
- Artefact sets are also available on many key topics
- Artefact sets contain a range of objects and 15 books
- Sets are loaned on a termly basis
- Price includes delivery and collection
Junior fiction collections
- Schools can purchase discounted fiction collections at any time through the year
- All books will be serviced with plastic jackets and date labels
- Schools may provide a list of suggested titles, or we can select titles on your behalf
- These will be invoiced on an ongoing basis
- The fiction collections will remain the property of the school and do not need to be returned to Herefordshire Libraries
Pay-as-you-go charges
- Project loans (books and/or artefact sets) - £48 per set per term (school year 2025/26)
- Project loans (books and/or artefact sets) - £50 per set per term (school year 2026/27)
- Children's junior fiction collection (100 books) - £540
Primary school annual subscription option
With an annual subscription, schools commit to a fixed budget at the start of the year based on the number of pupils in the school. This entitles the school to:
- Borrow up to 3 project or artefact sets per class per term
- Receive a permanent collection of 100 new children's fiction titles (average retail value £800 - £900)
- Project sets are loaned on a termly basis. But the fiction collection will belong to the school and does not need to be returned
- Schools can also receive up to 3 hours advice and support in school from our team during the year. This can include support with editing stock and advice on purchasing or general layout
Annual subscription charge 2026/27
£450 per school, plus £4.75 per pupil
Schools can sign up to the subscription option through the Hoople Schools Portal or by emailing Herefordshire Libraries (school library services) at sls@herefordshire.gov.uk The subscription runs for 12 months from 1 September to 31 August.
