Museum advice and research

We're here to help you connect with Herefordshire's history. While the redevelopment of Hereford Museum and Art Gallery is underway, some of our services are limited. We aim to help wherever we can, but please understand that our capacity is reduced during this time.

Caring for your items

If you have a historical object or artwork you'd like to learn more about or preserve, there are a number of external resources available to assist:

  • National Conservation Register: For specialist advice on conservation, restoration, and repair
  • Local antiques experts: For valuations or detailed appraisals, contact a local antiques dealer or auction house with expertise in the relevant field

You can also attend one of our Object ID Days for guidance on items that may have local historical significance. Please note that we are unable to offer valuations or conservation services ourselves. Check our events calendar for upcoming dates.

Accessing collections

Due to the redevelopment of Hereford Museum and Art Gallery, some services are currently limited. However, selected items, including the David Garrick CollectionBrian Hatton's artwork, the Herefordshire Hoard and some of our collections, are available to view online. While access to our research facilities is restricted, we aim to accommodate specific research requests whenever possible. Please contact us to discuss your needs.

Research

Access to our research facilities is currently limited due to redevelopment. However, we strive to accommodate requests where possible. Please contact us to discuss any specific research needs by email at herefordmuseums@herefordshire.gov.uk
