How social inclusion can help

Social Inclusion Officers support vulnerable young people so that barriers to learning are removed and they can thrive in order to achieve their full potential.

We work in partnership with schools, parents, pupils and partner agencies. We seek solutions that support children and young people in school who are at risk of exclusion and disengaged from learning. Our aim is to ensure they can stay within school and succeed academically, socially and emotionally.

Social Inclusion Officers provide an impartial service for parents and carers, school governors, headteachers, school staff and other agencies about inclusion, reintegration and exclusion.

Part-time timetables

All children are entitled to a full-time education and there is no statutory basis upon which to establish a part-time timetable.  In exceptional circumstances, there may be a need for a temporary part-time timetable to meet a child’s needs.

If a part-time timetable is used, we have guidance in place to protect  children and schools and to ensure that no child is excluded unlawfully as a result of its use. 

Herefordshire Council is committed to every child’s right to a full-time education offer, and we are clear that a part-time timetable cannot be implemented without consent from a parent/carer (or the Virtual School for Children Looked After).

Schools are expected to inform Herefordshire Council of the use of part-time timetables within their school or education provision. Please use the online form below to notify us as soon as practicably possible. The guidance should be shared with parents and governors.
