Your money - care leavers

Budgeting support for care leavers

We will make sure that you have a bank account so that you can start to take responsibility for your own money and learn about how to use a bank.

It's very important that you learn to budget because when you are living independently you will need to make sure that you can pay your rent and bills and have enough money for food, clothes and doing the things that you enjoy.

Your social worker or personal advisor will help you have a plan for managing your budget. Sometimes it may be your foster carer or someone else who does this with you.

If you end up in debt, it's important that you let you social worker or personal advisor know as soon as possible. We can help you by referring you to debt support services and developing a payment plan to get you back on track.

For more information on budgeting see the Money Helper website.
