We need to make sure that young people know their history and understand their life story. As far as possible this would include information about where you were born, who is in your family, what your family and life was like. It should explain the reasons why you come into our care, where you have lived and the reasons for important decisions being made.
Some young people tell us often that they don't want to be reminded of the past and don't want to talk about their experiences, which we understand. Other young people can often have questions about why certain decisions were made and want to know more.
During your time in our care your social worker, carers and family should have spoken to you about your time in our care and helped answer your questions and explain key information.
If this hasn't happened, or you have other questions, your social worker or personal adviser will spend time helping you to understand your history and get you any support that you may need to help you through this process, such as advocacy support from Hear Me or counselling support from CLD/Safer Connections.
