Early years education and service families

Armed forces familyChildren from military families often face unique challenges due to the demands placed on their parents who serve in our Armed Forces. Frequent relocations, repeated family separations during deployments, and disruptions caused by service commitments can impact the consistency of their education and emotional wellbeing.

Herefordshire takes pride in its Garrison status and is deeply committed to supporting the needs of children from military backgrounds. Aligned with the Armed Forces Covenant, our schools and community organisations work collaboratively to implement best practices aimed at minimising disruption and promoting stability for these young people. By championing these approaches, Herefordshire aims to create a nurturing and stable environment where children from military families can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally despite the demands of service life.
