Apply for a primary school place for September 2027

If your child was born between 1 September 2022 and 31 August 2023 you will need to apply for a reception class place for your child to start school in September 2027.

If your child already has an Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP), please visit Admission process for children with an EHCP, additional learning needs or a disability, as there is a different process for applying.

How to apply

Please refer to the primary school admissions guidance and read the Information for parents: admission to primary school document before deciding on your preferred school.

You will be able to apply from 14 September 2026.

The closing date for applications is 15 January 2027.

Late applications

Applications received after 15 January 2027 will be classed as late.

They will be processed after the national offer date of 16 April 2027 (with the exception of any late applications received between 16 January and 28 February 2027 that have evidence of a genuine reason for their lateness). However, this may not be the case for requests of schools in other local authorities.

How we will notify you

We will notify you of the outcome of your application for a reception class place on the national offer date of 16 April 2027.

  • If you applied online or applied on a paper application form including your email address, you will receive an automatic email informing you to log into your account to download your offer letter (and information on what you, as a parent, need to do next).
  • If you applied on a paper application form and didn't provide an email address, you will receive a letter in the post.

Parents of children resident outside Herefordshire

If you are not resident in Herefordshire then you should obtain admission details from your home local authority (LA), even if your preferences include schools within Herefordshire. (The 'home' LA is defined as the local authority relevant to the child's home address).

If you wish to apply for a place at any Herefordshire school, you must complete an application provided by your 'home' LA. The 'home' LA will ensure that the application details are passed onto Herefordshire LA for consideration in the allocation of school places.
