Dog poo - Clean it up
Dog owners and dog walkers must promptly clean up their dogs' poo from public areas and ensure it is appropriately disposed of. Not doing so is considered anti-social behaviour because dog poo is offensive, dangerous, and a pollutant that ruins public spaces, harms community wellbeing, and causes significant health risks, including potential infections like toxocariasis. Leaving dog poo, whether loose or in bags, is a selfish and harmful action that impacts others' use of public areas.
Herefordshire's dog control Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) makes it an offence not to clean up dog poo in public areas, which can result in fines or prosecution. For further information on dog control legal duties view the Herefordshire dog control Public Spaces Protection Order.
Report a dog poo issue or incident
If someone fails to clean up dog poo or there are dog fouling issues in your area, report it to the council, providing details like time, location, and offender descriptions if available. These details help to plan targeted patrols to monitor and investigate dog fouling issues, which could lead to formal actions.
Key information for reporting:
- Location: Precise spot of the fouling
- Time and date: When it happened
- Offender description: Dog owner appearance, type of dog, address (if known)
- Vehicle details: Registration number if a vehicle was used
