Preventing extremism - Prevent
Prevent is about safeguarding people and communities from the threat of terrorism. Prevent is one of the four elements of CONTEST, the Government's counter-terrorism strategy. It aims to stop people becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism. Channel also forms part of this strategy.
Though acts of terrorism are thought unlikely in Herefordshire, we can't be complacent about the potential threat. So we are implementing the Prevent programme here.
Which means we are:
- Challenging all forms of terrorist ideology and thinking, and those who promote it in our local communities and institutions
- Encouraging strong and positive relationships between people from different backgrounds in the workplace, and in our schools and neighbourhoods
- Providing advice and support to help keep people from being drawn into terrorism
- Working across sectors and with different institutions to combat the risks of radicalisation
Counter Terrorism Policing is asking for your help to encourage families and friends across the UK who may be worried their loved ones are at risk of radicalisation to 'act early' and share their concerns in confidence with us, or others who can help. Visit the Act Early Safeguarding Campaign.
