Trees and planning applications

You should submit a tree survey for trees within or adjacent to a planning application site. An arboriculturist should carry out the survey and record information about the trees on a site. The plans and particulars should be in accordance with British Standard 5837: 2012 - Trees in relation to design, demolition and construction - Recommendations.

Read a summary of our requirements in the tree surveys and protection during development guidance.

We will assess the impact of the development on the trees, and we may protect them by a Tree Preservation Order, or by a condition to ensure their protection during development and future retention.
