Tree preservation

Trees are an important part of Herefordshire's environment. They perform a variety of functions in the urban and rural landscape, providing visual amenity, biodiversity, historical heritage and sustainability. Woodlands also benefit the local economy, tourism, and leisure. They generally improve our lives and provide extensive benefits to the global environment.

Herefordshire Council is committed to the preservation and sustainable management of trees, and we aim to enhance and develop the resource. Due to their importance, planning legislation protects trees.
