Omicron grant support

For businesses in specific sectors and circumstances that are severely impacted by the omicron variant situation, one of two grants are available:

1. Omicron Hospitality and Leisure Grant

You can apply for this grant if your business is on the Valuation Office Agency (VOA) ratings list, delivers in-person services and the main trading activities meet one of the following definitions:

  • Hospitality – a business whose main function is to provide a venue for the consumption and sale of food and drink.
    This excludes food kiosks and businesses whose main service (generating 50% or more income) is a takeaway
  • Leisure – a business that provides opportunities, experiences and facilities, in particular for culture, recreation, entertainment, celebratory events and days and nights out. This excludes all retail businesses, gyms, sports businesses, coach tour operators and tour operators
  • Accommodation – a business whose main lodging provision is used for holiday, travel or other purposes
    This excludes private dwellings, education accommodation, residential homes, care homes and residential family centres

2. Omicron Discretionary Grant

You can apply for this grant if your business does not meet the requirements for the Omicron Hospitality and Leisure Grant but instead meets one of the following definitions:

  • Hospitality, leisure and accommodation – a business that meets the above definitions of these sectors but is not on the Valuation Office Agency (VOA) ratings list
  • Hospitality, leisure and accommodation supply chain - a business that generates 75% or more of their income from directly supplying businesses in these sectors, as defined above
  • Travel and tourism – a business that provides opportunities or arrangements for travelling to other locations, either domestically or internationally, for leisure, social or business purposes that include an overnight stay
  • Personal care –  a business that provides a service, treatment or activity for the purposes of personal beauty, hair, grooming, body care and aesthetics, and wellbeing
  • Gyms – a commercial establishment where physical exercise or training is conducted on an individual or group basis, using exercise equipment or open floor space with or without instruction
  • Wedding and events – a business where 75% of their revenues are generated from activities directly required by weddings or events that meet the leisure definition specified above

If your business does not meet the requirements of either grants, unfortunately your business is not eligible for Omicron support. Please see the Marches Growth Hub for details of any other business support that might be suitable.

Fraud statement

By completing the application or accepting the grant payment, you are confirming that you are eligible for the grant. If your eligibility circumstances change after making an application or receiving this funding, you must notify us immediately.

Herefordshire Council will not accept deliberate manipulation or fraud, and any instances will be actively investigated. Any business who falsifies their records or dishonestly provides inaccurate information to gain grant money will face prosecution. The council reserves the right to recoup funds and claw back any grants paid in error.
