Residents invited to help shape future of Hereford South West
Do you care about your local community? Do you want to help make a difference to people’s lives? Do you live in Newton Farm, Hunderton or the wider South Wye area, or were you previously from or have a connection to the area?
You could be right for a new community role helping to shape the future of the area.
People are being invited to apply to join the Neighbourhood Board for the Hereford South West Pride in Place programme.
The programme will bring £20 million of government investment over the next 10 years into Newton Farm and Hunderton, supporting long-term improvements led by local priorities.
The Neighbourhood Board will help guide how the funding is spent and ensure decisions are shaped by people who live and work in the area.
Board members will act as community representatives, helping to bring together different views, identify priorities and support a shared vision for the future.
The role is voluntary, similar to a school governor or charity trustee. Reasonable expenses will be covered.
Newly appointed Neighbourhood Board Chair Paul Rone said:
“You may not think of yourself in a role as a traditional board member, but being involved in shaping where we live is an exciting once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. We need people who have a connection to the area and who care about all things South Wye to help make decisions around our direction of travel and create a tangible legacy that we can all be proud of.”
Meanwhile, Herefordshire Council’s Cabinet Member for Economy and Growth, Councillor Graham Biggs, added:
“Pride in Place is about making sure local people are at the centre of decisions that affect their community.
“This is a significant investment for the area, and it’s important that it reflects local priorities and local voices.
“We are looking for people who care about their area and want to help bring communities together to make a real difference.”
Applicants should have a strong connection to the Pride in Place area and a commitment to community-led change.
The deadline for expressions of interest is Sunday 10 May 2026. Shortlisting will take place by 18 May, with interviews expected in early June.
Hereford and South Herefordshire MP Jesse Norman said:
“My priority is to make sure this investment delivers real, lasting benefits for Newton Farm and Hunderton, and that means putting local people at the heart of every decision.
“So I would strongly encourage residents with a connection to the area to step forward and help shape how this funding is used.”
To apply, complete an Expression of Interest form (no more than one side of A4) outlining your interest and experience, and submit it with your CV.
