Last chance for late night shopping and changes to council services over the Christmas period

Christmas markets and late night shopping

The last late night shopping night takes place on Wednesday 18 December. Herefordshire Council car parks in Hereford city centre (except Friars Street), the Old Market car park and on street pay & display will be free for shoppers after 4pm each Wednesday leading up to Christmas. A range of shops will be open late at Maylord, the Old Market, High Town and the surrounding area. A late night market will also be open until 8pm, providing the perfect opportunity to buy any last minute Christmas gifts. The last market dates before Christmas are Thursday 19 and Friday 20 December, 9am – 4pm.

Council services over the Christmas period

Our Christmas opening times from Monday 23 December:

  • Hereford Customer Services - open 23 / 27 / 30 December and closed at all other times. Normal opening times resume Thursday 2 January.
  • DWP / Jobcentre Plus - open 23 / 24 / 30 / 31 December and closed at all other times. Normal opening times resume Thursday 2 January.
  • Herefordshire libraries - open Saturday 21 / 28 December and closed at all other times. Normal opening times resume Thursday 2 January.
  • Black and White House Museum - open on 27 / 28 December and closed at all other times. Normal opening times resume Thursday 2 January.
  • Herefordshire Archive Service - closed from 21 December. Normal opening times resume Thursday 2 January.
  • Hereford Museum and Art Gallery - closed from 21 December. Normal opening times resume Tuesday 7 January.

Recycling and rubbish collections

Residents are asked to ensure bins are put out by 6.30am as collections may be earlier over the festive period.

  • Normal collection day Wednesday 25 December – revised collection day Saturday 28 December
  • Normal collection day Thursday 26 December – revised collection day Sunday 29 December
  • Normal collection day Wednesday 1 January 2020 – revised collection day Saturday 4 January 2020

Household Recycling Centres across Herefordshire will be open as usual throughout the festive period (except for Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day) where real Christmas trees can be composted with garden waste. Read more about what can and cannot be recycled this Christmas at www.herefordshire.gov.uk/recycling
