Cabinet changes confirmed from 1 August 2017

Herefordshire Council has today (Tuesday 1 August) announced new Cabinet appointments.

Councillor Jonathan Lester will take over as deputy leader of Herefordshire Council from Councillor Patricia Morgan, who is stepping down from the Cabinet.

Councillor Tony Johnson, Leader of Herefordshire Council, said: "I'm pleased to welcome Councillor Lester to his new role.  Jonathan has a number of years' experience in the public sector and is doing a sterling job with his young people and children's wellbeing portfolio.  His appointment as deputy leader reflects our priority for keeping children and young people safe and giving them a great start in life.

"I'd like to thank Councillor Morgan for the work she's undertaken as deputy leader over the past three years and for her time as a respected Cabinet member.  It's been a challenging few years and she's done an excellent job, especially with her health and wellbeing portfolio and role as chair of the Health and Wellbeing Board."

Alongside this change, Councillor Paul Rone takes over the health and wellbeing portfolio, Councillor Nigel Shaw adds housing to his finance and ICT portfolio, whilst Barry Durkin joins the Cabinet with responsibility for transport and roads.

Councillor Johnson added: "I'm pleased to announce Councillor Paul Rone's move to the health and wellbeing portfolio.  Paul has a well-deserved reputation for dealing with difficult and sensitive subjects in a straightforward and business-like manner.  His skills and experience will be of great value to the county.
