Secondary school places confirmed
Parents in Herefordshire join those across England today (1 March), with finding out which secondary school their child will be attending in September 2017.
Herefordshire Council has made 1,748 offers of places in schools across the county with the following parental preference success rates:
First preference: 1,656 offers, which is 94.7% of the total offers
Second preference: 41 offers, which is 2.4% of the total offers with a cumulative success rate of 97.1%
Third preference: 7 offers, which is 0.4% of the total offers with a cumulative success rate of 97.5%
In comparison to last year, it means more parents are getting their first school preference (2016 - 90.6% and 2017 - 94.7%) or a place in one of their three preferences (2016 - 96.4% and 2017 - 97.5%).
The balance of places offered, which is 44 or 2.5%, were to parents whose preferences could not be met and their offer was for the nearest school to their home address with available spaces.
As in previous years, Herefordshire schools are a net importer of pupils, with more pupils from neighbouring counties requesting places in the county's schools than Herefordshire pupils requesting places in neighbouring counties.
There are currently four Herefordshire secondary schools with waiting lists and six have available spaces.
The council has continued to promote its online application service this year, which was used by 78% of families.
