There’s lots going on this September for anyone who has an interest in their history and heritage, thanks to a great programme of events from Herefordshire Museums & Galleries.
You can celebrate ‘Heritage Open Days’, England’s largest festival of history and culture, with free entry to the Old House Hereford for the entire weekend of 13 and 14 September. Visit any time between 10am-5pm on Saturday 13th or 11am-4pm on Sunday 14th and you’ll find loads to keep all members of the family amused and entertained.
If you’re in Hereford on Saturday 13 September, why not pop across to the History Store in Friar’s Street. Between 2pm and 3pm there’s an opportunity to ‘Handle the Hoard’ – high quality replicas of the famous Herefordshire Hoard – and other treasures. You will be guided by expert curators to explore the craftsmanship, history and stories of these fantastic pieces. There’s no need to book, no cost to take part and the event is suitable for all ages.
If you’re interested in the Hoard but can’t make it to Hereford, then you may be interested to know that our archaeology curator, Dr Katie Miller, will be giving a talk about the history of the Herefordshire Hoard at Ledbury Heritage Centre from 7pm-8.30pm on Thursday 18 September. It’s free to attend, but you’ll need to book online via Revealing our Roots: Herefordshire Hoard talk Tickets, Thu 18 Sep 2025 at 19:00 | Eventbrite.
If fashion is more your thing, come along to our absolutely fabulous Sustainable Style event, being held in conjunction with Rose Tinted Rags and Hereford College of Arts. It’s taking place on Thursday 25 September from 5pm-7pm at the History Store, Hereford. Here you’ll be able to discover unique fashion finds, take part in a clothing swap and support sustainable fashion. There’s no charge to attend and it's suitable for anyone aged 16 or over.
Women’s history is the theme for the first in our new series of Saturday ‘Spotlight Talks’. Taking place on Saturday 27 September from 1pm-3.30pm at the History Store in Friars Street, Hereford, you can hear from local author and historian, Bill Laws. Bill will chart the working lives of women in Herefordshire between 1916 and 1966 - a period of remarkable social, political, and economic change. It costs £5 (+booking fee) to attend. Book online via Saturday Spotlight Talk: Working Women 1916–1966 Tickets, Sat, Sep 27, 2025 at 1:30 PM | Eventbrite.
