Herefordshire Council has organised more free five-week Nordic Walking beginners courses starting in Hereford during September and October. Don’t miss out – courses book up quickly.
The courses are a great way to learn a new skill in a fun and friendly social atmosphere and are led by our Nordic Walking UK qualified instructor Alison Gaster.
There are two courses taking place at Aylestone Park on Wednesdays, starting on 3 September. The first course will start at 1pm and the second course starts at 2.30pm, each course session lasts an hour.
There is also another free five-week course taking place at Belmont Country Park on Mondays, starting from 22 September at 1pm, perfect if you live or work nearby and can have an extended lunch break.
Walking has so many benefits for our physical and mental health and wellbeing. The courses have been organised to help people build more walking into their daily lives, and give confidence that they could try walking to the shops or to work, instead of driving.
Nordic walking is a full-body exercise that's easy on the joints and suitable for all ages and fitness levels. It's based on using specially designed walking poles in a way that harnesses the power of the upper body to propel you forward as you walk. While Nordic walking you'll start to use 90% of your major muscles, compared to the 45% used while regular walking, and you’ll burn around 46% more energy, so it’s a great way to get fit and even lose weight.
Participants from this year’s spring courses reported feeling fitter after the five-week course and said they really enjoyed being out in the fresh air and meeting new people. They also enjoyed learning a new skill and some said they had regained confidence following previous injuries which had prevented them from continuing with other forms of fitness such as running.
Don’t miss out - book your place now by visiting www.herefordshire.gov.uk/nordicwalking or contact Alison Gaster if you have any questions about the courses – Tel: 07837 743087 or email alison.gaster@btinternet.com
The courses are suitable for all ages and fitness levels, but please dress prepared for the weather with sturdy footwear or trainers.
