Funding is available to support grassroots sports and community transport initiatives.
Applications are now open to two grant schemes supported by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.
The Sports Club Development Grant Scheme offers small grants of £500-£5,000 to grassroots sports clubs and community groups in Herefordshire. This includes local football, rugby, cricket and multi-sports clubs, especially those run by volunteers. The scheme aims to support projects that increase physical activity, build volunteer capacity and improve the health and wellbeing of residents.
The Community Transport Support Fund is for VCSE (Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise) organisations to deliver or coordinate local transport solutions that improve access, reduce social isolation and strengthen community connections. Grants of £500-£5,000 are available.
All projects must show clear community benefit and be delivered by a not-for-profit organisation or group. The closing date for applications is Friday 15 August 2025. Projects must start after 31 August 2025 and finish by 20 February 2026.
Councillor Graham Biggs, Cabinet Member for Economy and Growth, said:
This is a great opportunity for sports clubs and community groups. A relatively small grant can make a huge difference to grass-roots initiatives, helping to strengthen communities, improve health and well-being and reduce isolation. I would encourage anyone who has a project that meets the criteria to apply before the deadline.
Further guidance and application details on these and other currently available grant opportunities can be found on the council’s website.
