Families looking for a low-cost way to entertain their kids this summer need look no further than The Old House Hereford.
A packed programme of free, drop-in events is on offer, running throughout the school holidays.
From Saturday 19 July to Sunday 1 September (inclusive) Herefordshire Museums & Galleries is inviting families to dive into hands-on history, science and creativity at one of the city’s most iconic buildings, The Old House. Under 16s go free, and all activities are included with standard adult entry. There’s no need to book, and no added costs.
Every Wednesday brings something new: dig into archaeology, build a castle from LEGO®, experiment with science and even make your own sundial! Plus, a special family-friendly trail runs throughout the holidays, so there’s always something to discover.
Alongside the main activities, during your visit you can also explore some mini displays. Our Archaeology Highlights Case offers a snapshot of real finds from Herefordshire’s past, while Come Dine With Thee reveals how people ate and celebrated through the centuries, with seasonal table settings and historical recipes to take home.
Damian Etheraads, Museum and Art Gallery Lead at Herefordshire Council, said:
We know the summer holidays can be expensive, and we want to give families an easy, affordable way to have fun together. These events are relaxed, welcoming, and totally free for children - and we’ve designed something different for every week of the break. Even the gift shop has been refreshed with a new branded range and low-cost pocket-money treats, so families can take home a small memento without breaking the bank.
Further details of all events are available on the Herefordshire Museums & Galleries Facebook page, our website events page and in our printed What’s On guide, available from Old House Hereford, The History Story, libraries and tourist information offices.
