A free event that highlights the range of services available to unpaid carers* living in Herefordshire is coming to the Kindle Centre, Hereford on Monday 9 June.

The event will run from 10am – 2pm and will feature market stalls, talks and workshops of interest to unpaid carers, including:

  • Talks by Councillor Carole Gandy, Cabinet Member for Adults, Health and Wellbeing, John Burgess, Commissioning Manager at Herefordshire Council and Gareth Howells, CEO at TuVida (Herefordshire Council’s commissioned carer support service)
  • Legal services for carers with Richard Green, Hereford Wills
  • Complementary therapy taster sessions with Marsha Arnold
  • The Kindle Singers Community Choir
  • Short film about Carer Links
  • Stalls from local charities, services and organisations

A free buffet lunch, tea and coffee will also be provided.

Anyone wishing to attend is asked to pre-register via the weblink.

The event marks the relaunch of Herefordshire Carer Links, a dedicated support service for unpaid carers run by TuVida on behalf of Herefordshire Council. It takes place on the first day of National Carers Week, an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring.

Councillor Pauline Crockett, Chair of the Health, Care and Wellbeing Scrutiny Committee at Herefordshire Council, said:

Most unpaid carers enjoy caring for their friend or family member and find it very rewarding. But it can be hard work and sometimes carers can feel isolated and alone. This free event is a great opportunity for them to find out about the services and support on offer and to meet and share their experiences with others who are in similar circumstances.

Councillor Carole Gandy, Cabinet Member for Adults, Health and Wellbeing, added:

This event enables unpaid carers of all ages to access highly relevant and useful information, guidance and support. It’s deliberately being offered at the start of National Carers Week to raise the profile of some of the issues and challenges faced by unpaid carers. However, we also want to highlight how rewarding being a carer can be and shine a light on some of the excellent support available in the county. I’m really hoping we have a great turnout and am sure it will be a very worthwhile event.

Please note that there are significant roadworks taking place on the A49 Ross Road in Hereford from Saturday 24 May. Please choose an alternative route or allow for delays to your journey.

* Unpaid carer means anyone who cares for a friend or family member who due to illness, disability, a mental health problem or addiction cannot cope without their support.
