Following a previous rockfall, the C1261 Hoarwithy Road has been closed between the C1234 to Knapp Green due to the danger of further rockfall from the privately owned slope.
Council officers have been in contact with the landowner since the road closure was first put in place, but unfortunately works have not been forthcoming and various deadlines and notices have not resulted in action to address the issue.
The council has now arranged for a specialist contractor to attend the site under supervision on Saturday 26 April to remove the necessary rocks from the slope above Hoarwithy Road. This will then allow a geotechnical consultant to assess the slope early next week to determine if it is stable enough to allow the road to reopen.
The cost of the work will be borne by the Council, who will seek to recover its costs through legal processes, along with the costs of providing the road closure to date.
We will provide a further update once we know the outcome of the assessment.
