Herefordshire Council is working with Police and Crime Commissioner John Campion’s Roads Focus campaign to make the county’s roads safer.

The Roads Focus campaign is the product of partnership working between the PCC, West Mercia Police and the Council, and via drop-in sessions, gives local people a platform to voice their road safety concerns and have any questions answered.

The confirmed events taking place from 6pm to 8pm are:

  • Thursday 30 November – Ledbury Community Hall, HR8 2AE
  • Tuesday 12 December – Leominster Community Centre, HR6 8NJ

Cllr Barry Durkin, Cabinet Member Roads and Regulatory Services, said: “We are very pleased to be involved with the Roads Focus campaign. Ensuring we have the best highways network possible is one of our very top priorities, and to achieve this, we recognise how vitally important engaging with local communities is. The drop-in sessions will be a perfect opportunity for residents and road-users to have their voices heard, ask any questions they may have and chat with us about their concerns.

“I would encourage anybody interested in our county’s roads to come along, and I look forward to meeting you all there!”

Police and Crime Commissioner John Campion said: “I hear regularly from residents across West Mercia about road safety concerns so building on my successful Community Conversation events, I have re-launched Roads Focus. From correspondence into my office, I have identified areas of the highest concern.

“At the heart of my Safer West Mercia Plan is a commitment to make roads safer in West Mercia as it’s a sad fact that too many people are killed or seriously injured on our roads.

“Each roadshow event will bring together relevant partners and West Mercia Police to ensure residents have a platform to voice their concerns and play their part to shape the changes they want to see in their community.”

Superintendent Steph Brighton from West Mercia Police said: “Protecting people from harm remains a key priority for us, and our ongoing work to achieve safer roads is a 24/7 commitment. Engaging with our communities and working alongside our partners to address local road safety concerns is an important part of this work. Our operational Road Safety Team will be supporting Roads Focus events and they look forward to meeting members of the public to talk about issues that are affecting their local area.”
