Community groups across the county are being invited to apply for funding to tackle the Climate and Ecological Emergency through a new Community Climate and Nature Grant Scheme.

Non-profit groups or organisations based in Herefordshire (or a Herefordshire Parish Council) can apply for funding of up to £15,000 for new projects which will deliver carbon reduction and/or ecological enhancement in your community, based around four themes.

  • Community Buildings – for example, energy conservation or efficiency measures
  • Sustainable Transport – for example, community cycle parking or electric vehicle charging points
  • Nature – this could include tree planting, community allotment projects, or the creation or enhancement of a community nature area
  • Other Projects – such as waste reduction projects, or community initiatives that promote sustainable lifestyle choices

Cllr Ellie Chowns, Cabinet member for economy and environment, said:

“We are thrilled to be able to invite applications for the exciting new Community Climate and Nature Grant Scheme. We are committed to working with partners and communities to make Herefordshire carbon neutral by 2030/31. We are looking for people who are enthusiastic and passionate about protecting the county for future generations, and this support is a fantastic way for community groups to play their part.

“It will enable communities to reduce their use of fossil fuel energy, reduce transport emissions and increase biodiversity. Perhaps most importantly, it will help people to engage directly with the challenge of climate change.”

Non-profit groups or organisations based in Herefordshire (or a Herefordshire Parish Council) can apply for a maximum grant of £15,000. Early applications are welcome. The grant assessment panel will meet for the first time week commencing 15 November.

The final deadline for submitting your application is 15 December 2021
