John Kyrle High School Celebrates National Recognition in Holiday Activity Awards

John Kyrle High School and Sixth Form Centre has been named the winner of a national award in the prestigious Holiday Activities and Food Programme Awards 2026, recognising the school’s commitment to supporting children during the school holidays.

The award highlights the strength of the partnership between John Kyrle High School and Herefordshire Council’s HAF team, resulting in positive outcomes for children and young people taking part in the ‘Here for Herefordshire Holidays’ programme.

Originally named as a regional winner in the HAF School Partnership category, John Kyrle also scooped the national award at a prestigious ceremony hosted by the Department of Education in Westminster, London on 30 September. Representatives from both the school and Herefordshire Council attended the event to collect the prize.

John Kyrle is one of around forty HAF providers working with Herefordshire Council to deliver exciting free activities for eligible children and families across the county during the school holidays. These providers offer a diverse programme of sports, arts and crafts, outdoor learning, cooking, wellbeing activities and provide a nutritious meal for each attendee, helping children to stay active and healthy, build confidence and develop new skills.

Dr Luke Moseley, Headteacher of John Kyrle High School and Sixth Form Centre, said:

"We are incredibly proud to receive this award. The HAF programme has enabled us to make a real difference to our students and the wider Herefordshire community.

“This recognition reflects the dedication of our staff and partners who work hard to provide enriching experiences for children during the school holidays. We were honoured to represent the region at the national awards ceremony, along with colleagues from Herefordshire Council.”

Cllr Ivan Powell, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People at Herefordshire Council, added:

"We are delighted that John Kyrle High School has been recognised as both regional and national winners at this year’s HAF Awards. The school has shown an outstanding commitment to supporting children and families through the holiday activities programme, creating opportunities for young people to stay active, develop new skills and enjoy healthy meals during the holidays.

Cllr Carole Gandy, Cabinet Member for Health and Wellbeing, said:

“Congratulations to John Kyrle High School on this outstanding achievement. This award shines a spotlight on our fantastic network of Herefordshire providers. Every year, schools, community organisations and activity providers work together to deliver high-quality experiences for children and young people in communities across the county. Their dedication ensures that eligible families can access valuable support, opportunities and activities throughout the school holidays and this award is recognition of the strength of that collective effort."
