Bosbury Primary School pupils bring Easter cheer to their community

Pupils from Bosbury Primary School brought heart-warming cheer to their village by re-opening their former post office for one morning and stepping into the role of posties by delivering Easter cards to every household in their community.

Dressed in homemade postal uniforms and carrying bags filled with brightly coloured cards, the hand deliveries help to revive the spirit of a village post office that closed more than 20 years ago.

Each card is hand designed by the children themselves, featuring lambs, spring flowers and messages of kindness.

Their special delivery service has become a much‑loved annual tradition, first created by the school during the isolation of the Covid pandemic as a way of staying connected with meaningful face-to-face visits from the smiling young “posties”.

Headteacher Ruth McManus believes the initiative reflects the school’s wider ethos of promoting face-to-face interactions and a sense of community.

Ruth said: “We are proud of our academic standards, but we believe education is also about hearts, habits and human connection and not just digital communications.
“In a world where so much happens through screens, we want our children to understand the value of being an important part of a local community.”
Bosbury resident, Lizzie Jones, added: “The hand delivered cards are a lovely annual event - more than that, really. You don’t always realise how much you miss these small interactions until they happen again. The children bring such joy. It makes you feel part of something.”
Councillor Ivan Powell, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, praised the initiative and Bosbury Primary School’s commitment to nurturing kindness and community spirit. Cllr Powell said: “I was heartened to hear about the efforts of the pupils at Bosbury Primary School and the joy they bring to the village each year by hand delivering their Easter cards. Well done to everyone involved - I hope you all have an enjoyable Easter.”
