£5.5m investment in Herefordshire Schools
Schools across the county are set to get a £5.5 million boost for maintenance and repairs, after Herefordshire Council signed off a major investment for a programme of improvement works planned for 2026/27.
A total of £2.77 million has been allocated for essential school building maintenance, helping to ensure that facilities remain safe, secure and fit for purpose.
In addition, a further £2.79 million has been earmarked specifically for essential improvement works at Aylestone School, Hereford, including a full boiler replacement, remedial works to Broadlands House, and re-roofing of the CDT block.
The investment forms part of the council’s wider strategy to maintain school buildings to the highest standard, guided by regular condition surveys and statutory safety requirements that help to prioritise repair works based on need.
Where possible, maintenance projects include opportunities to enhance environmental performance to support the council’s long-term net zero ambitions.
Cllr Ivan Powell, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said:
“It is a key ambition for Herefordshire Council to ensure that all children are able to access a good quality education. It’s important to show our children that we value their education by maintaining our school facilities. This investment of over £5.5 million into our school maintenance programme will help to provide students with the best possible learning environments.”
