Hereford Transport Hub reaches 75 per cent completion

Work on Hereford’s new Transport Hub has reached a major milestone, with the project now around 75 per cent complete and on track for an end-of-October opening.

The £10 million scheme is part of the Improving Transport in Hereford programme. It will create a modern gateway to the city, bringing together public transport and active travel in one place.

The central Hub structure is now fully in place. Internal work is continuing, including electrical wiring and installing fixtures and fittings. External cladding is complete, and work on the welfare building is nearing completion.

Good progress has also been made on the surrounding area. The access roads and bus parking area have been surfaced, and work continues on the pavements. The bus area is expected to be ready for rail replacement services during July.

While the planting scheme on the land in front of the new Transport Hub is also well underway.

The project is part of the £20.5 million Improving Transport in Hereford programme, funded by the UK Governments Levelling Up Fund.

The Transport Hub sits within a wider set of transport improvements across Hereford, including active travel work at Holme Lacy Road, recent improvements to the Great Western Way, and the proposed first phase of the Hereford Bypass.

When complete, the hub will include an enclosed waiting area, covered cycle parking, better bus facilities, pedestrian areas, green space and a new café. It will provide a welcoming arrival point for residents and visitors.

Councillor Philip Price, Cabinet Member for Transport and Infrastructure, said:

We are making good progress on the new Transport Hub and it is exciting to see it taking shape.
With around three-quarters of the work now complete, people can clearly see the scale and quality of what is being delivered. The central Hub structure is now in place, and work is continuing inside and around the site so it will be ready for opening later this year.
The Transport Hub will create a modern, accessible and attractive gateway to Hereford. It will improve connections between public transport and active travel, support local businesses, and create a space people can be proud of. We remain on track for an end-of-October opening.”
