Primary school pupils’ creativity flags new Museum on the Move to thousands

Two primary school children from Hereford have earned a feather in their caps by winning a county-wide design competition – with their winning entry already seen by thousands at this year’s Three Counties Show.

Year six pupils Cobie and Daria from Trinity Primary School were chosen as winners from more than 400 entries into Herefordshire Council’s ‘Design a Flag’ competition to help promote its exciting new Museum on the Move service.

Their designs were chosen by Museum staff, and as they were voted joint winners, elements of both are featured on new feather flags which are already brightening up events around the county.

The Museum on the Move is Herefordshire Museums and Galleries’ innovative new mobile museum, which is taking real museum objects, pop-up displays and hands-on activities out to events across Herefordshire and beyond. It was funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund.

Cllr Elissa Swinglehurst, Herefordshire Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture and Environment, said

“Many congratulations to Cobie and Daria for their eye-catching designs which will now be seen by thousands of people. We’re really excited to have launched such an innovative new way of bringing local history alive, and taking it to every part of our county, giving people everywhere the chance to experience and learn more about our heritage.
“The creativity which exists in every part of Herefordshire came to the fore in this competition – with more than 400 of our talented primary school children coming up with some great designs. Hopefully they will enjoy the Museum on the Move too, which is an exciting new development from our Museums and Galleries team, and brings some of our unique heritage and culture to people’s doorstep”.
