The original improvement works were completed last year, and the current activity is part of the normal completion process for a major construction project, addressing a number of outstanding items and finishing works.

The Council recognises that any return of works to a busy town centre can cause concern, particularly for businesses, market traders, residents and visitors. Plans are being carefully managed to minimise disruption while ensuring the remaining works can be completed safely and the project brought to a formal close.

A spokesperson for Herefordshire Council said:

“We understand the concerns that businesses, traders and residents may have about further works taking place in Leominster town centre, particularly given the impact that previous phases of the project had on the town.

“We have listened to those concerns and are working closely with our partners, including local traders and market organisers, to minimise disruption wherever possible while these works are completed.

“The Heritage Action Zone improvements have created new public spaces in the town centre, and these works are about addressing outstanding issues and ensuring the scheme is completed to the standard that residents and businesses rightly expect.

“Leominster remains open for business throughout this period and we would encourage people to continue visiting and supporting the town’s shops, cafés, markets and attractions.”

The remaining works are expected to start on Monday 27 June and will take approximately two weeks. They include a range of minor finishing works, repairs and adjustments, such as:

•  Minor paving and highway repairs
• Road marking improvements
• Adjustments to drainage and surfacing
•  Lighting and street furniture works
•  Landscaping and planting works

The Council is working with contractors to carefully plan the programme and prioritise highway works where possible to help manage traffic impacts.

Some temporary space in Corn Square will be required during the works for contractor facilities and materials, with approximately four parking bays unavailable during this period.

The Council is also working with market organisers to manage the impact on market activity, with discussions taking place regarding temporary arrangements for affected market days.
