Led by Herefordshire Council, the redevelopment expands the school’s Language and Communication Centre, which supports pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). 

The project includes a high-quality two-classroom extension, increasing the school’s capacity and providing modern, flexible learning spaces designed to meet the needs of pupils and staff.

Alongside the new classrooms, the project has delivered a dedicated quiet room to support one-to-one learning and emotional wellbeing and a new meeting room for parents, carers, therapists and external professionals.

In addition, two new gardens have been created and are designed to encourage sensory exploration and therapeutic learning.

Improvements have also been made to the school's parking area and outdoor spaces, creating a more welcoming and functional environment for pupils, staff and visitors.

As part of the celebrations to mark the completion of the project, pupils took part in a time capsule burial ceremony, placing a collection of items representing life at Hampton Dene Primary School in 2026. The capsule, which was buried within the grounds of the new building, will remain sealed for future generations to discover, preserving a snapshot of the school community and its history.

The ceremony gave pupils the opportunity to play a direct role in the redevelopment project and leave a personal legacy for the future. Items were chosen by the children to create a unique record of their lives for those who may one day uncover the capsule.

The Hampton Dene redevelopment forms part of Herefordshire Council’s wider commitment to providing high-quality, inclusive learning environments across the county.

These new facilities are an asset for the Hampton Dene Primary School community and will provide modern, inclusive and sustainable education facilities for the pupils and staff for years to come."

Liz Kearns, Headteacher of Hampton Dene Primary School, shared: "We are pleased to have worked in partnership with the Council and Speller Metcalfe to bring this project to life. The new facilities have enhanced our provision at Hampton Dene and will help us to provide our children with the very best care and education within the local community. It was a lovely touch that our pupils were able to bury their time capsule in the grounds of the new building knowing that they have shared a piece of their history with a future generation."
