Helping Herefordshire landlords prepare for the ‘biggest shake-up in private renting for 30 years’!

Private landlords and letting agents across Herefordshire are being urged to ensure they are ready to comply with all parts of the new Renters’ Rights Act 2025 as it comes into force over the coming months.

A free Landlords Forum event on Wednesday 14 January, hosted by Herefordshire Council in partnership with key sector body the National Resident Landlords Association (NRLA), will set out what the Renters’ Rights Act means in practice for private landlords of all types and sizes.

The event, from 5.30pm - 8pm will cover what the Renters’ Rights Act 2025 means ahead of major changes starting 1 May 2026 in a phased rollout, including:

  • the end of Section 21 “no fault” evictions
  • the shift to assured periodic tenancies
  • clearer rules on rent increases
  • new rules on advertising
  • steps to take for compliance on rent reviews
  • updating tenancy documents
  • role of the new Ombudsman
  • and more
“The aim is simple: help every private landlord in Herefordshire understand and comply with the new laws,”

said Councillor Jonathan Lester, Leader of Herefordshire Council.

“We are committed to supporting landlords to comply by giving them clarity and practical information - therefore ensuring local people who are renting privately get the service and standards they are entitled to.
“With the first phase of the Act coming into force this spring, we want to ensure all landlords and agents are taking practical steps now. It has been described in the sector as the biggest shake-up in private renting for 30 years, and we want to make sure all landlords in Herefordshire are ready.”

Alana Davies of the NRLA will provide the main briefing, including significant time for Q&As, along with networking. The event will also include an update from the Council’s specialist team on homelessness in the country and the need for further temporary accommodation.

Place at this free event can be booked on Eventbrite.
