Green rewards for Herefordshire’s garden-waste bin winners
Ten lucky Herefordshire residents are in the clover after winning a free garden-waste subscription for the 2026–2027 service year.
The winners were drawn at random from households signed up to the council’s new garden-waste collection service, with each receiving a full refund of their annual £60 subscription.
The prize draw is part of the council’s ongoing efforts to thank residents for choosing a convenient and environmentally friendly way to recycle garden waste at the kerbside, as preparations begin for the spring growing season.
Herefordshire’s new garden-waste collection service is now rolling out across the county, with hundreds of new brown bins arriving and deliveries to households taking place throughout February, ahead of collections starting at the end of March.
Garden waste will be collected fortnightly and turned into compost to support future green growth, helping residents cut down on trips to the recycling centre while reducing carbon emissions.
Herefordshire Council’s Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for the Environment, Cllr Elissa Swinglehurst, said:
“Congratulations to our prize-draw winners and thank you to everyone who has signed up to the new garden-waste service. With collections starting soon, now is a great time for residents to get ready for the growing season. The service offers an easy, reliable and great-value way to recycle garden waste responsibly, while delivering real environmental benefits for the county.”
The annual subscription costs £60 for the year — just £2.40 per collection — and includes a 240-litre brown bin, or four reusable 60-litre sacks for properties where a bin is not suitable.
Residents can recycle grass cuttings, hedge clippings, leaves, twigs, small branches, weeds, dead flowers and windfall fruit. The scheme is flexible, allowing households to share bins with neighbours, add extra bins, or take their subscription with them if they move home.
For residents who have not yet subscribed, now is a great time to join thousands of households already using the service to keep gardens tidy and turn green waste into compost — all collected from the kerbside.
Bins and reusable sacks will continue to be delivered throughout February, with the first collections starting at the end of March.
Residents can find out more and sign up via the council’s Garden Waste Collection Service webpages.
