Hundreds attend Herefordshire’s first Big HAF Day
More than 470 residents came together to enjoy a free, fun-filled day of activities at Herefordshire Council’s first ever Big HAF Day, held on Wednesday 18 February at Whitecross High School.
The event formed part of Talk Community’s Here for Herefordshire Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme and was created to give eligible families and those feeling the pinch the opportunity to enjoy an exciting day out during February half term.
Children were able to take part in a wide range of activities, including pickleball, dancing, circus skills, caving, pottery, trampolining, and much more.
A free healthy meal was provided for every child that attended, ensuring participants were well fed throughout the day.
A range of support services also attended the event to inform families about the help available to them should they need it.
Cllr Carole Gandy, Cabinet Member for Health and Wellbeing, said:
“We’re delighted to see so many families enjoying the Big HAF Day. The turnout shows just how valued these opportunities are, especially during school holidays. Our focus is on bringing families together, giving children the chance to try a huge variety of activities and learn new skills, ensuring that no-one misses out due to cost.”
The Big HAF Day is part of the council’s ongoing work to support families impacted by the rising cost of living, while providing positive, enriching opportunities for children and young people across the county.
The next Here for Herefordshire Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme will take place during the Easter holidays. Parents and carers of eligible children will be able to book up to four sessions from 12 noon on Wednesday 11 March online.
